  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg. Heat until warm but not boiling.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased baking dish and pour half of the prepared cream mixture over them.
  4. Sprinkle half of both cheeses over the first potato layer.
  5. Repeat layering with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
  6. Dot the top with butter and cover with foil; bake for 40 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown on top.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
